Kankaleshwar Temple, Beed

Category Religious

Kankaleshwar Temple is located in the city of Beed in Maharashtra, situated on the banks of a tributary of the Godavari River. The temple is near the central part of Beed and holds great significance from both historical and religious perspectives. It is believed that the Kankaleshwar Temple was constructed during the 14th century, during the reign of the Yadava dynasty. According to some historians, the temple was built in the Hemadpanthi style of architecture, which was particularly popular during the Yadava period. This architectural style is known for its strong stone construction, using interlocking stone blocks without any cement or lime. Based on the architectural design, it is also believed that the construction may have been carried out under the orders or supervision of Hemadpant, a minister in the court of the Yadava rulers of Devagiri. Hemadpant was known for initiating the construction of several temples and water reservoirs across the region. The estimated period of construction is between the 13th and 14th centuries, which aligns with the era of the Yadava rule.
